Organizational Communication : Balancing Creativity and Constraint
The purpose of Organizational Communication, then, is to describe the role and importance of organizational communication within an evolving social context. In doing so, we point out the tried and true business pathways that are now dead ends, as well as those routes that lead in promising future directions. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive text that focuses on current business practices, while at the same time offering a thorough reconsideration of the history, theories, and research on communication and organizations.
- In Part I, "Theories Of Organizational and Communication,"Chapter 1 and 2 begin our discussion of the role of communication in business, and the evolution of theories of communication in our understanding of organizations. Chapter 3 through 6 explore theories of organizations and communication within the historical and cultural periods that produced them.
- In Part II, "Contexts," Chapters 7 through 9 analyze current organizational communication practice at three levels: the individual, the relationship, and the group. Chapter 10 and 11 explore the connections between communication and the financial viability of a business, along with the future of organizational communication in general.
